Spaghetti is perhaps the most well-known pasta shape globally, representing the heart of Italian cuisine. Its name comes from the Italian word “spago,” meaning “string” or “twine,” due to its long, thin shape. Originating in the southern regions of Italy, particularly Naples and Sicily, spaghetti has evolved from a traditional homemade dish to a staple in both Italian homes and restaurants worldwide.

Its popularity surged in the 19th century when pasta became more accessible and commercialized, though it has roots in Italian culture dating back centuries. Whether served with a light tomato sauce, garlic and olive oil, or a rich meat ragu, spaghetti embodies the versatility and simplicity that make Italian cuisine so loved.
